Company
History
Every business has a story and ours began in 2000, when Brian Porter founded Bucca. Working as a consultant for a top tier web and software development firm in Minneapolis, Minnesota on high profile projects for the likes of Best Buy, Walser, 3M, & Techies.com. Brian learned quickly from his experiences, absorbing everything he could and noting how things could be improved. Harnessing his entrepreneurial spirit, Brian set off to create a new style of agency. Since starting the business in a room above the garage back in 2000, Bucca has evolved into an interactive media agency known for delivering outstanding digital experiences.
Nimble
At the core of our business philosophy is, to be nimble. In the digital environment that we work and play, change happens quickly so we need to be ready to change with it.
Less Mass
We purposely stay lean with a company of less mass, that way we are better positioned to adjust to the real demands of the marketplace.
React & Evolve
If you can’t react and evolve, you’ll lose ground to those who can. That is precisely where Bucca's competitive advantage lies.
Personal
We communicate with our customers in a direct and personal manor using language familiar to the customer and not jargon filled talk down.
Closer
At Bucca we enjoy fewer formalities, less bureaucracy, an unfettered flow of ideas, and by staying lean we are closer to the customer.
Passion
We love what we do, and we’re driven by a desire to produce the very best digital experiences possible.
What's A Bucca?
Our name Bucca (pronounced Boo-Kaa), is the name given to a mythological Cornish sea deity which would guide sailors safely back to shore on its wings. In other instances a Bucca was thought to be a winged creature that would grant wishes. We feel that it fits us well.

The Process
From the very beginning we set out to build Bucca out of new thinking, focused solely on delivering outstanding digital experiences. We would not rely on the traditional agency structure. Instead, we challenged the conventional formula and created a more efficient approach.
1. Plan
Discovery / Goal Setting / Wireframe / IA
Every project needs to start somewhere, what better place than with research, analysis and well thought out information architecture.
Next, we take your vision and begin to form the basis of the site structure and layout. This “planning phase” is often overlooked but we feel it’s an essential part of the process that helps set the tone for the rest of the project.
3. Build
XHTML / CSS / JS / CMS
The design is ready and now you’re just chomping at the bit to turn it into a real site.
We specialize in standards-based development as well as in the implementation of Content Management Systems that will bring the most out of your site with dynamic content and interactive elements.
2. Design
UI / Prototyping / Graphic Treatment
Now that we have the planning out of the way, we can get to the part that everybody loves… the design of the look and feel.
We take the knowledge collected in the planning stage and begin to hash out conceptual design and a user interface that best suits the needs of the project. Prototyping and graphic design lie at the core of this phase.
4. Manage
Analysis / Maintenance
Just because your site has launched doesn’t mean we’re out of the picture. In fact, it’s just the opposite.
A great design can only become epic after launch when we can see how people are using the site. We’ll look at entry points, popular content and other optimization strategies to make sure that both you and your users are getting the best web experience possible.
Small Agile Teams
We've built Bucca around intelligent agile teams with fewer people, better communication, and a more effective use of budget. The combination of “Change is Good” thinking and the agility of a small team allow us to respond more quickly to both clients and competitors by lowering the cost of change.
Working
We’ve set out to create a new way of business that is no longer bound by location, long hours and the traditional agency hierarchy. Bucca is less about protocol, location, cubes, meetings, and attire, and more about contributing to the team, personal comfort, simplicity, and delivering results. Our business model recognizes that long hours, time away from family, and unnecessary stress serves no one, and ultimately will hinder the performance of ones job.
Why Bucca
We're passionate about what we do, and we're building momentum. With a dedicated management team, creative executive producers, results driven account exec's, and a brilliant production staff we are positioned for growth. If you like solving hard problems, we want you.
